Can I just say – how the hell is it already August?!
Last month, I was good.. aside from one or two impulse buys, I spent most of my spare time thinking about ways to de-stress and enjoy the moment. My mantra has always been ‘try to leave the day’s stressors at the door’ and keep your home environment as a zone of mindfulness and calm, but you and I know that’s easier said than done.
Stress can take its toll in many ways, be it physical or mental, but it’s important to remember that above all, your health and happiness is paramount, and you deserve to schedule in some me-time to focus on you.
That’s why for this post, I decided it would be a nice idea to write about four things that really made me smile in July. Taking a moment to think about a few highlights from the past is a great way to break away from negativity, and reconnect with those fleeting moments of happiness that we all know, come and go way too fast.
So here they are – four things that really put a smile on my face in July (and still do!)
1. The first month anniversary of my blog!
Getting a congratulatory email from WordPress.com for 1 month of Pretty Thoughts being live probably sounds pretty insignificant, but to me, it symbolised something pretty special. That email to me showed that for a month, I was committed to my blog, and with all of the support I have received from creating it, I couldn’t be happier. 🙂
2. Cuddling Meerkats (hear me out on this)
As an anniversary treat, Mike and I decided to try something a bit different to spa breaks and weekends away. One night browsing through Groupon, we found a Meerkat Experience Day voucher for a little place just outside of Cambridge. After getting over the amazement that these things actually exist (the experience day, not the Meerkats just to clarify) we thought ‘why the hell not’ and bought two tickets.
For 30 incredible minutes that went by way too fast, we got to play with, feed and cuddle Meerkats and from start to finish, I don’t think there was a single moment where I didn’t have a massive goofy smile on my face.
3. Love Island
I cannot believe how obsessed I was with this show. For the whole of July, 9pm meant Love Island time, and if I hadn’t made my evening cuppa by the time it had started, too bad.
4. Discovering bareMinerals Complexion Rescue
You may have seen my last post on this, but if not, I recently picked up a tube of bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Gel Cream. In doing so, I have not only found a new makeup bag staple but I have also conquered my battle with stubborn foundations sliding off my face as soon as there is even a hint of summer.
Great for sensitive, oily/combination skin and with an ample range of shades, this stuff is a perfect alternative to thicker foundations in the warmer months when you are wanting a product that leaves the skin feeling fresh but are also craving a hint of coverage.
If you haven’t given it a go, I highly recommend you do!
